Charity Shop Book Haul! #2
After posting my last Charity Shop Book Haul, I went back to my charity shop and I may have purchased some more books! (shush, don't tell anyone!) Also, I just want to point out all of these book were not purchased on one day, it was two days in a row - I don't think that makes it sound any better, but oh well.
These books were all in the same charity shop, which is about 5 minutes away from my house. The first day which I went to the shop, the volunteers were reorganizing the bookshelves and getting rid of the books which had not been sold so they could put new ones out, and they told me that if I came back the next day all the new books would be out. So of course I went back the next day!
I couldn't help myself, okay!
Anyway, here are all of the books that I brought!
I Funny by James Patterson (Book #1) - Hardback - 50p!
HI I'M JAMIE GRIMM AND I WANT TO MAKE YOU LAUGH!
Do zombies eat doughnuts with their fingers?
What do you get when you cross a parrot and a shark?
What do mallards wear at a wedding?
To find out the punchlines to these jokes and TONS of others, read on!
You'll hear the story of my insanely un-funny stepfamily, my mostly funny friends, an amazing person called Cool Girl, and the school bully, who happens to live in the same house as me - plus a secret I'm not exactly ready to tell you yet.
But I WILL tell you that I'm on an unforgettable mission to win the Planet's Funniest Kid Comic Contest, and I want you there with me every step of the way!
I've actually already read this and will be posting a mash-up review (with the second book) very soon!
I Even Funnier by James Patterson (Book #2) - Hardback - 50p!
Step right up and see me, Jamie Grimm, laugh my way though the roller-coaster ride called middle school!
Watch me joke my way to the top of the Planet's Funniest Kid Comic Contest!
Be amazed as I fend off the attention of thousands of starstruck girls!
Or something like that, anyway...
People say I can be pretty funny sometimes. But when things get tough, I EVEN FUNNIER!
I'm currently 100 pages into this one (and enjoying it!) and as I said above, when I've finished I will be posting a mash-up review with the first book.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel - Paperback - 50p!
ONE BOY, ONE BOAT, ONE TIGER.
After a tragic shipwreck, solitary lifeboat is left at the mercy of the wild blue waters of the Pacific. The only survivors are a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi, a zebra with a broken leg, a hyena, an orang-utan - and a 450-pound Royal Bengal Tiger. Now a major motion picture from acclaimed director Ang Lee, the much loved Life of Pi is a bewitching tale of adventure and friendship - and of finding courage in the most unexpected places.
I don't know when I will get round to reading this one, but hopefully before the year ends. I decided to pick this one up as I have watched the movie and I really enjoyed it and plus it was only 50p!
Black Beauty by Anna Sewell - Paperback - 50p!
As a young colt, Black Beauty enjoyed his freedom and his owners' kindness. When they're forced to sell him, he will have to learn to make his own way.
If you've seen my 'The 7 Deadly Sins Tag' (I'll leave a link at the end) blog post then you'll know that I've only read one classic and that's Little Women by Louisa M Alcott. I've been wanting to change that for quite a while, so when I saw this for only 50p I just had to pick it up and give it a go.
(Also, the cover was just so beautiful, that I needed it!)
"Who Could That Be At This Hour?" by Lemony Snicket (All The Wrong Question #1) - Paperback - 50p!
Before you consider reading "Who Could That Be At This Hour?" ask yourself these questions :
1) Are you curious about what is happening in a seaside town that is no longer by the sea?
2) Do you want to know more about a stolen item that wasn't stolen at all?
3) Do you think that's any of your business? Why? What kind of person are you? Really?
4) Who is that standing behind you?
I was really excited when I saw this there and I immediately picked it up and let me tell you know, I was not going to leave that store without it! I'm hoping to read this ASAP and find the next in the series!
Questors by Joan Lennon - Hardback - 50p!
If you can't find a hero, then you have to make one. When things are desperate, you'll try anything.
The Incredibles meets The Wizard of Oz in this fantasy page-turner full of action, atmosphere and humour.Three worlds, held in perfect balance. Nothing can change that. Apart from a cataclysmic disruption in the Space-Time continuum! Enter three perfectly designed heroes, Madlen, Bryn and Cam, who have been created to save the worlds - but the only problem is, they're not ready yet. They're still kids and they have no idea what they're looking for or where they'll find it. And a sinister villain has tampered with their DNA, so they're not quite as perfect as they should be. There's trouble in store - and the Questors don't know where - or when - to expect it...
I'd never heard of this book till now, but I picked it up and had a bit of a read of the inside flap. It interested me so much, that I went and brought it! I'm really looking forward to seeing how this one plays out.
The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot - Paperback - 50p!
'You're not Mia Thermopolis any more, honey,' Dad said. I raised my head. 'I'm not?' I said, blinking. 'Then who am I?' He went, kind of sadly, 'You're Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo, Princess of Genovia.'
One minute Mia's totally normal. Next minute she's heir to the throne of Genovia.
Well, her dad can lecture her until he's royal-blue in the face, but no way is Mia going to behave like some posh princess. And they think she's moving to Genovia? Er, hello?
I know this is for younger children, but I never read this series at that age. They had the first book there and before I knew it I was already at the till giving the woman my 50p! As it is for younger children, I'm hoping that it will be a fun, quick read. And, if I like it I will hunt for the others ones in the series or I might just order them off of Book Depository!
I think I've got a problem! Do they do like a book-buying rehab sort of thing, I think someone needs to sign me up! I'm not joking...
